In 2013, Sony tried out a story-driven post-apocalyptic idea as a main exclusive project with one its most reliable studios, and the result was something extra-ordinary within the whole industry. The Last of Us is still an iconic exclusive title for PlayStation, no matter the sequel will be able to extend it or not, but now all eyes are on Days Gone as an upcoming exclusive with an initial theme similar to The Last of Us. Days Gone surely owns its unique DNA, but its a story-driven title set in an apocalyptic world that follows the dark tale of an alone survivor, so the base is ready for another great hit, but is it possible for Bend Studio? Well, at least the new trailer raised my hopes.
The World of Days Gone is the name for Bend Studio’s newest trailer for the upcoming open-world zombie shooter that is set to be released on April 26th. The trailer has accompanied with John Garvin’s explanations on the world of the game. The creative director at Bend Studio describes the game’s Northwest Pacific as a “world that comes for you.” He says:
The thing about going out into Farewell Wilderness in Days Gone is that everything is trying to kill you. Days Gone is a world that comes for you. It’s a world that is dangerous everywhere you go. We set Days Gone in that world because we hadn’t seen it a lot in video games, and it brought something to the experience that we really, really need it.
Garvin also pointed out Freakers are not the only thing that worries you within the world, as you will encounter with lots of difficulties coming from the nature itself, such as different weather conditions or some organized group of people that are dangerous than the zombies when they are holding a gun.
The danger comes from not just the Freakers, but it comes from Marauders who want to snipe you off your bike, it comes from the weather that will make it impossible for you to stay on a muddy trail. The world changes after dark, more Freakers come out. Its brutal and its harsh.
Following the trailer, Garvin introduced different types of zombies and other threats that you will be encountered with in Days Gone. Here you can check out the trailer to get more details on the game:
