held a Livestream on Tuesday in which they offered more information on their upcoming remake of EA’s popular horror game Dead Space. Creative director Roman Campos-Oriola and Senior Producer Phillippe Ducharme both took to the stream to discuss the game, stressing that what was being showcased was still early on in production.
They also stated that it was important to communicate with fans, making sure to get feedback along the way as they develop the game. Of course, EA has had a spotty track record with projects like this, though they have recently attempted a course correction, this history seemed to be front and center in the desire to be as transparent as they can be.
First and foremost they made a point to showcase that the horror aesthetic will be maintained in this remake. As part of this, they showcased a comparison between the original game and this one both to show the horror vibe as well as the upgrades to the graphics:
They then discussed some mechanics that are returning to the franchise. For instance, the flight mechanic that was first introduced during Dead Space 2 will see inclusion in this game. Another Dead Space 2 addition now making an appearance in the first game is that protagonist Isaac Clark will be fully voiced.
Originally, Isaac was a mute protagonist for the first game, with him seeing a voice performance for the second game as they fleshed out his personality. Not just will he be voiced, he will be performed by his actor from Dead Space 2 and Dead Space 3, Gunner Wright.
There is currently no date of release for the Dead Space remake. It is rumored to release in 2022, though based on what they stated it might be further out than that. It is currently in development for Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5, and PC.
