As reported by insider Jeff Grubb, Electronic Arts is now reportedly targeting an early 2023 release for it’s highly anticipated Dead Space remake. Grubb claims that originally EA was considering a release in October 2022, but never announced it publicly. This push to 2023 is reportedly to make sure that the game will truly impress fans when it returns.
Dead Space is a survival horror game in which players take control of Isaac Clarke aboard the mining spaceship USG Ishimura which is teeming with monsters called Necromorphs. Isaac must solve puzzles and battle the necromorphs while struggling with increasing psychosis. The game was praised by critics upon release for it’s innovative combat which saw Isaac using mining equipment as improvised weapons to sever the limbs of necromorphs to kill them. It was also praised for it’s atmosphere and innovative use of in world elements to inform players of things like health and oxygen instead of a more traditional HUD. The game was immensely popular during it’s time of release, however, as time went on EA moved away from single player experiences and delved more into “live-service” games packed with microtransactions.
According to Grubb, the goal of EA is to have the Dead Space remake release with the same quality as Capcom’s Resident Evil 2 remake. This process will of course take time, but the game continues to impress many people internally. Should the remake have a successful launch, it could pave the way for new sequels for the franchise down the line. It could also possibly lead to EA investing in more single player experiences along side it’s current live service games.
Developer Motive has planned another developer livestream about the Dead Space remake tomorrow, March 11th. The stream will focus on the audio development of Dead Space.
