Death Stranding Rated As PS5 Exclusive

After the past month, if I never heard the name Hideo Kojima it would be way too soon.  After a company by the name of Blue Box studios announced a horror game named Abandoned everybody has been scrambling to figure out how it is secretly Hideo Kojima announcing Silent Hills. Fuel was thrown on that fire when the director’s cut of Death Stranding was shown during the Summer Games Fest Live event, hosted by Geoff Keighley. While I really can’t offer much in the way of whatever Abanbdoned is, with a full reveal planned for tomorrow, we do know a tiny bit more about the Death Stranding Directors Cut.

According to Gematsu on Twitter the ESRB, which rates video games before distribution, has rated the upcoming re-release. This is not a big deal in and of itself, but it has only been rated for one system, the PlayStation 5.

This implies that the game will be exclusive to the console. Unfortunately, it looks like this will leave both PlayStation 4 fans as well as PC fans without the ability to play the game, at least for now.

Upgraded versions between consoles is not an unusual thing as multiple games have done so already. These upgraded versions are usual tailored to take advantage of better hardware for graphical fidelity or framerate boosts. In the case of Death Stranding, the little we did see implied more content would be getting added, including nods to Kojima’s roots with Metal Gear Solid-themed stealth segments.

On the PC front, there are probably two reasons why they will not be seeing it, at least not right away. The first is that while PlayStation has a committed plan to porting more games to PC, they have also stated these ports will not be day one alongside their PlayStation release. Secondly, the PC port of Death Stranding did weak compared to other ports like Days Gone.

We will have to wait to see if any other consoles are planned for release, but as it stands now it appears the game will be a PlayStation 5 exclusive.
