Something unexpected happened today, as Hollywood star Mads Mikkelsen teased a gameplay aspect of the upcoming game from popular game director Hideo Kojima, Death stranding.
Mikkelsen said in an interview with Total Film magazine during the premiere of his latest movie Arctic at the 2018 Cannes Festival the following:
“The whole concept of playing the game, as I understand, needs collaboration from different people from different parts of the world,” hints Mikkelsen. “Which is also on another level of fantasticness.”
“It’s wonderful, and I can tell from the little things I’ve seen – some things, it’s not done yet – but I’ve never seen anything like this. And he’s not happy with it yet! It’s going to be ballistic.”
Mads Mikkelsen also commented on the motion capture process and the storyboard for the game, which is he described as “immaculate”:
“It’s been a little surreal, because obviously there’s nothing. We do everything. It’s mo-cap. But the storyboard is so immaculate. He (Kojima) tries to explain it again and again and again, and I thought I had it, but then this happens and I’ve lost it again. It’s too complicated. It’s too crazy. It’s too beautiful. It felt a bit like being in drama school: “Just jump in and improvising this scene. This is what happens. Don’t question it.”
This, along with the previous tease made by co-star Norman Reedus, saying that the game would include “elements of social media”, and Kojima himself saying that he wants to make a game that connects players with “ropes” rather than “sticks” and that he “definitely wants to try something different for online.”
But today’s tease was the first time we’ve ever heard that the game’s “whole concept” revolves around collaboration, nonetheless, Mikkelsen has repeatedly said that he’s not totally clear on what’s going on in the game exactly, so at this point we can only speculate the gameplay mechanics of the game.
Perhaps we’ll find out more when we finally see the E3 trailer Kojima’s been teasing recently.
Playstation Life Style said in an article on their website:
“While it feels almost sacrilegious to try and second-guess what’s going on in the mind of Hideo Kojima, just reading Mads Mikkelsen’s words springs to mind something akin to a Dark Souls message system but to the power of 1000. Which would be quite a feat.”
