DICE Stopped Making the 5v5 Competitive Mode for Battlefield V

After the huge success of Battlefield 1 back in 2016, it was a tough mission for DICE to bring a new title in the series performing much better than that game. While a huge part of the community was expecting a new battlefield with modern combats, DICE continued its path in the World War era and this time stepped into WW2. However, the game didn’t repeat the success of Battlefield 1 in both reviews and sales, though all the post-launch contents of Battlefield V have been made available for free. But, it seems sometimes having a paid DLC is better than offering everything for free since it will force developers to respect their promises and determined deadlines. Today, DICE has announced that the promised 5v5 competitive mode for Battlefield V is no longer under development and this is disappointing.

McArthur from DICE has confirmed via a statement that 5v5 competitive mode won’t be launching for Battlefield V since the team behind it wants to focus on other issues of the game instead of adding a new mode. He said:

The added focus on improving the quality of the experience and adding more of the content you want has led us to step back from our original plans to offer a competitive 5v5 mode.

Actually, adding a new mode is part of adding more of content so I don’t think that McArthur has been successful in justifying the decision that DICE has made. 5v5 modes are one of the popular ways of playing online shooters nowadays which could add a new experience similar to R6 Siege to Battlefield V. Anyway, the mode won’t be coming to BF 5 anymore, but the question is if it was included in a paid DLC would we see such an easy cancellation? Never.
