Nintendo may have just dropped a subtle tease for something Mario related in the near future. While many fans absolutely loved 2017’s Super Mario Odyssey, there’s still mega-ton audience that’s hoping to see a rebirth of Super Mario Sunshine from the Nintendo Gamecube era. Perhaps that’s what makes this seemingly non-cryptic message so interesting to many.
Nintendo recently dropped a tweet wishing fans had a “summer odyssey” “filled with sunshine” with both Odyssey and Sunshine relating to previous Super Mario titles. However, if one were to dissect the message a bit further, some point out the two seeds on Mario’s face which, I guess, could hint towards either Super Mario sunshine 2 or Super Mario Odyssey 2. Of course, it also could just be Nintendo of America wishing fans a happy summer.
Some other eagle-eye scouts have pointed out that during both Luigi’s Mansion 3 and Link’s Awakening demos during this week’s Gamescom event, a statue of Mario was spotted next to both a watermelon and pineapple, respectively. These certainly could be interpreted as extremely vague clues regarding what’s next for the mustachioed plumber series, but also could just be Nintendo representing their most iconic mascot.
There’s been a long demand for previous Super Mario titles to hit the Switch in Super Mario form with Sunshine being near the top of that demand list. These “hints” might signal something new coming, but if anything it might most likely be something in the vein of Sunshine DLC for Super Mario Odyssey. Again, or it could be a simple message from Nintendo to its fan base.
In other news, Nintendo did show off some exciting new gameplay footage of Legend of Zelda: Link’s Awakening during Gamescom this week. Link’s Awakening is just one of many upcoming Switch titles that are continuing to show just how perfect the switch console is becoming.
The busy time of year is on the fringe of starting as Platinum Games’ Astral Chain will start things off with its release next week on August 30, 2019. From there on out we’ll receive exclusive titles like Link’s Awakening, Luigi’s Mansion 3 and Pokemon Sword/Shield, along with third party titles heading over o the console, such as Ori and the Blind Forest, The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, Dragon Quest XI S, A Hat in Time and New Super Lucky’s Tale.
