During Microsoft’s press conference at E3 2019 we officially get to know the new member of Xbox Game Studios that rumors around it was pointing to different developers such as IO Interactive or Ready at Dawn, but it was Double Fine that joined to Microsoft’s team in shaping up new exclusive titles for the green team.
After a heart-warming welcome from fans at conference, we get to know more about this new acquisition of Microsoft during a panel at E3 Coliseum in which, head of Xbox Game Studios Matt Booty shared the vision behind signing contracts with talented developers through recent years and adding more creative groups to the family of Microsoft.
Booty claimed that instead of dictating their desires to the development teams, Microsoft wants to what the developer intends to work on and what they seek to create as a new project. For Double Fine, there is also another reason to be a great option to join to Xbox team and that’s the long list of valuable IPs the developer has worked on through its history. Booty confirmed that “[they] could do remasters” and other things to some of IPs that Double Fine has previously developed.
The studio is currently working on Psychonauts 2 which is a sequel to the very first game that Double Fine developed over a decade ago. While we saw a new trailer from Psychonauts 2, recently it’s confirmed that the game has been delayed to launch in 2020.
