Dragon Quest XI S: Echoes of an Elusive Age – Definitive Edition has released a free 10-hour demo that players can transfer to the full game after purchase. This is also the first time Dragon Quest has come to the Xbox and Xbox Game Pass. 10 hours might seem like a lot, but compared to the 100+ hour story, it’s a drop in the bucket. Dragon Quest has always been the feel-good franchise. Originating in 1986, Dragon Quest is known for its lighthearted take on the hero’s journey. Traditionally, the hero is charged with the seemingly impossible task of saving the world from impending doom (nine times out of 10, the player character is also the chosen one, surprise). It always has flair and charm, characters in the rag-tag party are always fun and varied, sprinkling in moments of heart-felt sincerity along the way.Dragon Quest XI S: Echoes of an Elusive Age is set in the world of Erdrea. The player character is the Luminary, a man tasked by the world tree, Yggdrasil, to save the world from evil. Being the chosen one, the player travels across the world to gain the power he needs to stop this malevolent force. The series predates Final Fantasy, a game franchise that has influenced countless other titles in the industry. That is to say, this series has deep roots in the RPG community and lots of other franchises have drawn from Dragon Quest when looking for inspiration. Jumping into the Dragon Quest world is always a lighthearted, fun way to spend some time, but fans should know at this point that to see the end credits is going to be a time investment, to say the least. The most recent installment in the franchise boasts up to 100 hours of gameplay, so the 10-hour demo is just enough time to acclimate and get one’s bearings. The demo is out now on PlayStation 4, Steam, and Xbox One.Gaming Instincts is dedicated to bringing its readers all the latest and greatest news, reviews, guides, and updates for all their favorite titles and more.
