Dragon Quest XI S – Condensed the Original to 14 Gigabytes

Dragon Quest

XI S: Definitive Edition, might be one of the best RPGs to come out this year, dare I say of this generation? What makes Dragon Quest XI S, such a curious case comes down to how in the world did Square Enix capture the essence of the game for Nintendo Switch. Not in the traditional sense, because graphically and from a presentation standpoint everything makes sense. However, Square Enix had to take what made Dragon Quest XI great on the PS4 and condense its contents to a 32 gigabyte Nintendo Switch cartridge all while adding additional content to the game.

Dragon Quest XI S: Definitive Edition for the Nintendo Switch added a ton of extra content to the game. When announced some believed Square would add some additional content to the post-game and that would be that. However, Square Enix went the extra mile and included a load of mid-game content. This includes extra cutscenes, the entire game redone again in 2D mode, more post-game content than in the original game. Some smaller tweaks were made to character appearances, gear and the overworld the player is in.

What Square has accomplished here is an incredible feat, especially in the light of The Witcher 3 bringing all its contents to the Nintendo Switch. Remember the PlayStation 4 version of the game came in at around 30 gigabytes, they were able to compress all of this down. Not just the base game and post-game on the original disk, but all the added content and DLC as well. This brought the total of Dragon Quest XI S: Definitive Edition to under 14 gigabytes which is absolutely astonishing.

What do you think about Dragon Quest XI S: Definitive Edition? Were the tweaks and graphical downgrades too much for you to cop the remake? On the flip are you enjoying Dragon Quest XI S: Definitive Edition? Let us know and make sure to follow Gaming Instincts on Facebook and Twitter.
