Sharing a New Year’s message to fans on Twitter, Dragon Quest Creator and Designer Yuji Horii revealed that it is still too early to talk about Dragon Quest XII; he teased about an undisclosed title that might be more more advanced in its development.
“Happy New Year. In addition to [what I said in the New Year’s card] below, there are some things I still cannot say, but as for [Dragon Quest] XII, it is still a little while ahead. However, there may be things we can release before that.”
While it may disappoint fans who where expecting the next installment of the series, Horii teases a release for the game adaptation of Dragon Quest: The Adventure of Dai that might launch soon after the anime releases this fall.
Horii explains that he is “extremely happy” that Dragon Quest XII is something that is highly anticipated by fans. He then expressed his thanks for the support of fans and developers.
He also talks about the achievements made last year, the release of Dragon Quest: Your Story and the Switch adaptation of Dragon Quest XI. He also mentioned the announcement of Dragon Quest: The Adventure of Dai, which will get an anime and game release. Dragon Quest: The Adventure of Dai appeared on Shueisha’s Weekly Shōnen Jump from October 1989 to December 1996.
Back in June during a livestream presentation with Dragon Quest Executive Producer Yuu Miyake, it was confirmed that Miyaki and series creator Yuji Horii were indeed making preparations for Dragon Quest XII.
The Dragon Quest series has had high success, and has its roots in the third generation of home video game consoles, having launched as Dragon Warrior for the NES, back in 1989. Among the key features of the series is the art from Akira Toriyama, who is famous for being the artist behind Dragon Ball’s manga.
