Dying Light 2 Stay Human will take players 500 hours to fully complete, almost the same amount of time it would take to walk from Warsaw to Madrid, according to a tweet by the game’s developer, Techland. Players should remember that Techland emphasizes “fully” complete, which means 100 percent completion. For Dying Light 2, an open-world choice-based game, that means completing every side quest, every collectible, and playing the story multiple times to see different outcomes. After some critical feedback, Techland attached an update to its Tweet, clarifying the completion times for different playstyles. A story-plus-side quests playthrough should take 70 to 80 hours, but adding exploration to the mix will up the playthrough to 100 hours. Still, that’s a long game compared to the first Dying Light’s 55-hour completionist run. Though Techland has not specified what type of content will add to the 100-hour campaign, it has promised a “solid experience” regardless of how players choose to play.
In contrast to other open-world games, Assassin’s Creed: Valhalla’s completionist run lasts 135 hours, and Red Dead Redemption 2’s completionist run is about 172 hours. The 500 hours it takes to 100 percent Dying Light 2 is an outlier for the open-world genre, but that shouldn’t be a surprise after seeing how long the game has been in development. While announced in 2018, we can assume Techland has been working on the sequel since 2016, after the original game was released. It’s been a long journey for Techland to reach its 2022 release date, suffering from several delays along the way, and the sheer amount of content may explain, in part, why the development cycle took so long.
Now, the open-world, zombie game is near, boasting a game-changing day and night cycle and world-altering in-game decisions. Dying Light 2 Stay Human is scheduled to release on Feb. 4, 2022.
