E3 2017: EA Reveals a New Co-op Game Called A Way Out

It was revealed by Electronic Arts during its E3 2017 briefing, the debut of A Way Out, a new game from Hazelight, made by the creators of Brothers: A Tale of Two Sons. Teased back at The Game Awards in 2014, A Way Out is a co-op-only action/adventure game featuring the story of two escaped prisoners who have to work in tandem to evade the police and other criminals.

Check out the official reveal and gameplay trailers of A Way Out, featuring the story and mechanics of the game:

The game will be the first title from Hazelight, which opened back in 2014, A Way Out will have gameplay mechanics like Brothers, yet the developers have upped the ante for this one–including a grittier and darker story to follow. A Way Out focuses on the story of two convicts who are on the run, and going from prison escape, to getaway chase, the story will follow these two characters as they face problems of their past, all while trying to stay one step ahead of the law.

Unlike Brothers, however, A Way Out is only playable in co-op with another player. Either through local split-screen or online co-op, players will always need to have another person to experience the game with. In the presentation they showed that one player could control their character while the other was on a cutscene, a pretty interesting mechanic indeed.

Also the developer of the game stated that each objective can be achieved in several ways, so this can give the game a replayability value.

Hazelight is the studio of film director Josef Fares, who directed Brothers.

The game is said to arrive in early 2018 for Xbox One, PS4, and PC, A Way Out looks to be an interesting debut from Hazelight.
