EA Financial Officer Hints at Dragon Age 4 Release Window

During a recent earnings call, EA chief financial officer, Blake Jorgensen, hinted that Dragon Age 4 “probably comes after fiscal ’22.”

The bad news is it’s unlikely that fans of BioWare’s RPG series will be able to acquire the full game before April 2022.

The good news, however, is that BioWare has time to buckle down and make Dragon Age 4 a polished game so the developer (and the publisher, EA, by extension) can avoid the Mass Effect: Andromeda and Anthem disasters. This is time the company could use given the recent exit of Dragon Age 4’s lead developer, Fernando Melo, from BioWare and the multiple interruptions that have occurred in the game’s development process.

Draagon Age Inquisition was the last installment in the main Dragon Age franchise, releasing on November 18, 2014 for PC, PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, Xbox 360, and Xbox One. The third addition in the series, Inquisition received highly positive reviews, most critics praising the game’s story elements and expansive open-world locations. Compared to Inquisition’s predecessors (Dragon Age: Origins and Dragon Age 2), the game offers hundreds of hours of gameplay, with its vast array of side quests, War Table Missions, and myriad of exploration opportunities.

Since 2014, other than a few DLC releases for Inquisition, the franchise has been on hiatus. A few rumors circulated regarding an epic return, but most were unsubstantiated until late 2018.

While many fans have lost faith in BioWare under EA’s umbrella, Dragon Age 4 provides the developer with an opportunity to win back some of that loyalty. Expecting a modern game to be buggy is a foregone conclusion, but hopefully BioWare can cut down on the amount and size of those bugs with the time they have to design Dragon Age 4.
