EA Play 2019 starts off strong by showing off more information about Star Wars Jedi: Fallen order with a 15-minute gameplay demo that takes place a few hours into the game.
Its said to be a single-player action-adventure game set after order 66 was initiated back in episode III Revenge of the Sith.
The gameplay shows Cal Kestis, a Jedi-in-training who landed on the planet of Kashyyk, a Wookie homeworld being taken over by the Empire.
The mission starts with a cinematic introducing us to the new location. Cal has a small droid on his back named Bd-1. Cal will wall run and parkour his way through levels in order to help the resistance. New characters are introduced.
After being introduced to the resistance on Kashyyk, Cal takes a look at the map that was recently installed to his droid. A hologram map can be activated through your droid in order to get a good look at the next objective area. Lightsaber can be used for light in dark places while of course for swinging around.
A fight is later seen in the background but Cal has to move forward. Melee combat against stormtroopers seems cool as they ragdoll appropriately from your powerful swings. Cal also has the ability to slow down time, and objects around him. As the fight continues, some finishing moves are seen which may be context-sensitive or activated through a parry. As he continues more types of stormtroopers are seen such as Special Jedi hunters named Purge Troopers which are minibosses that require a bit more skill to fight as they are more skilled in melee. The Combat looks incredible and it seems that some finishing moves look set for if an enemy has less health, similar to Sekiro.
After the battle bd-1 can give health if it gets too low. Flamethrower troopers are seen fighting off a bunch of beetle like enemies. Then giant spider creatures appear as well for Cal to fight. They have a bit more health and must be dealt with one at a time.
After beating the spiders a skill point is acquired, mostly for leveling up Cal’s force powers.
Cal can also interact with select corpses in order to get information about your surroundings using the force. After a giant spider ambushes Cal he seems to do instant parry against the big spider and cuts its limbs off dealing an execution. Bd-1 also has a chance to scan creature, but the gameplay continues.
More platforming done by stopping objects from moving using the force and some climbing. Stormtrooper dialogue is true to the series as they banter with each-other. Cal can use force to pull enemies towards you slow down laser shots, and throw enemies towards the lasers.
Despite enemies being able to die in a few hits, it may be tougher to do against the anti-Jedi Purge Troopers who are immune to force grab and slow down force powers.
After dealing with the enemies Cal then manages to free the Wookies but gets ambushed by an Empire droid, ending the gameplay.
Skill points are revealed that they will go into extra force abilities such as Slow which is new to Cal. Purge Troopers are there to hunt Jedi which are entirely new to the series and bd-1 is an explorer droid that will act as support through Cal’s adventures such as giving health packs, show maps, and scan objects.
There will good or evil choices in the game as Cal is an authentic character, not you. So it will follow the full-fledged storyline Cal and his adventures to become a Jedi.
