With it’s release literally right around the corner, the floodgates have been opened and the reviews have begun pouring in for the highly anticipated Elden Ring. The hype surrounding the latest release by From Software has reached astronomical levels, and judging by all the review scores, that hype might very well be warranted this time around. The game has amassed a large number of perfect scores, with sites like IGN, Gamespot, and Game Informer giving it top marks, while our own review praises Elden Ring as “game of the year but also potentially a game of the generation.”
As of the time of writing this, Elden Ring is the number one highest rated game of all time on review aggregate site OpenCritic, and has a score of 97 on fellow aggregate site Metacritic. This puts it in the company of some of the best video games of all time such as The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, Grand Theft Auto V and Red Dead Redemption 2.
Of course, this may change as more reviews come in.
Elden Ring is being lauded for not only it’s art direction, lore, and combat, but mostly for it’s expansive interconnected world that encourages exploration. The game includes many side quests, dungeons and optional content that critics say will continue to surprise and amaze you. Our own review states:
Not only does Elden Ring push the boundaries for the souls-like genre, but it also showcases how a well-managed development studio such as From Software can set the standard for how future open-world games should be. Nowadays, a typical open-world game consists of a lot of empty space, overly nice graphics, and repetitive tasks that soon become boring. If any developers are looking for inspiration on how to create a solid, large, and most importantly, dense world with enjoyable content that begs to be explored, they should study Elden Ring.
With many fans already speculating that Elden Ring would be Game of the Year material, it looks like the critics are inclined to agree. Either way, it looks like this is a game should not be missed.
