, the anticipated upcoming title from developer FromSoftware, is getting delayed though only by about a month. The official Twitter account for the game posted the news today setting the new release date being February 25, 2022.
The reasoning is given for this decision, stating that “the depth & strategic freedom of the game exceeded initial expectations.” This is not shocking to hear as the game has a level of scope not previously attempted by the studio, which has been consistently pointed to during interviews with the development team.
However, it is not all bad news, at least not for console players. Along with the announcement of the delay, the Namco Bandai also announced that the game would be getting a closed network test starting on November 12th. According to a blog post from the company:
The Elden Ring Closed Network Test will be playable throughout the weekend of November 12-15th for PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X|S during the following time periods:
- November 12: 12:00 to 15:00 CET
- November 13: 4:00 to 7:00 CET
- November 13: 20:00 to 23:00 CET
- November 14: 12:00 to 15:00 CET
- November 15: 4:00 to 7:00 CET
Players will be selected to take part in the network test, which will offer the first look at what the full game will have to offer. If you are a fan of FromSoftware and looking to possibly participate, you will need to register here.
This latest delay will make the month of February pretty overstuffed with big-name releases. Horizon: Forbidden West is currently slated for February 22, with the reboot of Saints Row and indie action game Sifu currently slated for the same day as Elden Ring. Dying Light 2: Stay Human, King of Fighters XV, Destiny 2: The Witch Queen, and Life Is Strange: Remastered Collection are all set to release that month as well.
