Epic Games Publishing has today announced new partnerships with gen DESIGN, Playdead and Remedy Entertainment, developers of The Last Guardian, Inside and Limbo and Control respectively. Those three studios are the first partners to join the recently announced Epic Games Publishing.
Epic Games Publishing will follow the same strategy taken with Epic Games Store, developers are first. For this approach, Epic Games Publisher offers developers full creative freedom and ownership of their creation, developers will retain 100% of all intellectual property. The publisher will also cover up to 100% of development costs, from salaries to go-to-market expenses such as QA, localization, marketing, and all publishing costs. As if that wasn’t enough, Epic Games is trying to change the game, developers will earn at least 50% of all profits.
An announcement video was shared via YouTube to celebrate the deal.
“We’re building the publishing model we always wanted for ourselves when we worked with publishers,” said Tim Sweeney, Founder and CEO of Epic Games.
“gen DESIGN, Remedy, and Playdead are among the most innovative and talented studios in the industry, with strong visions for their next games,” said Hector Sanchez, Head of Epic Games Publishing. “They will have full creative control, while Epic will provide a solid foundation of project funding and services.”
According to Critical Hit, Remedy Entertainment has confirmed that two games are currently in development. One is a “balls to the wall” AAA project, the second game is a “sister project” on a much smaller production that will follow the first game. The biggest production is expected to be a multi-platform game. Both games will run on Remedy’s Northlight engine.
Epic GamesPublishing is trying to reach to even more development studios, they confirm that more games and announcements will take place in the following months.
