Fans of the cult classic anime will now be able to pilot an EVA, as Evangelion Battlefields is releasing on April 2, 2020 in Japan, the “cinematic battle action” game will release for iOS and Android.

Featuring a 3D, real-time action gameplay, fans will combat EVA vs EVA, but the game will not feature just the three main EVAs as twenty-two characters will be included in the game., a pre-regstration campaign is now live for the Japanese market. Special controllers for the game has been revealed, priced at ¥4,980 (roughly $47)players can select between special design based on the main EVAs, Unit 00 and Unit 01. Controllers will connect devices via Bluetooth which will offer a superior experience compared to the virtual buttons on the screen of the smartphone.

Manufactured by Tomy Arts the controllers feature an arcade style, according to sources, the controller will work as a computer mouse, the controller is designed to be used with one hand, with a few buttons for selecting the battle commands, it seems that the approach is to allow freedom of mobility by allowing the EVA to move at the desired direction with ease with a gesture.

In the image above, special toys of the Neon Genesis Evangelion anime can be spotted, sold separately, the figurines can be used to extend the gameplay, is still uncertain which ability has each figurine. There is also a Honda X Evangelion collaboration, interestingly, the Japanese car manufacturer has a counter on their website with a tachometer with the aesthetics of the anime, teasing an announcement. The words Evangelion, Movie and Civic are present in the tease.

Outside Japan, Neon Genesis Evangelion is a anime that has been praised for it’s dystopian, psychological story, great fights and violence is an added bonus to the entertaining and intriguing anime, released in 1995 the Japanese market was spoiled by a N64 Evangelion game that never saw a worldwide release. Evangelion Battlefields is very similar to that N64 game that never released in America or Europe. Maybe, 2020 is the year that fans will get inside of an EVA for the first time.
