Everspace 2 Reaches Final Kickstarter Stage

ROCKFISH Games has announced that Everspace 2, the sequel to 2017’s Everspace, is in the final stages of its Kickstarter campaign.

Coinciding with this development, the company has released a number of addition vlogs regarding the title’s NPCs, alien life forms, and the ambitious open-world that features “a mix of persistent and procedurally generated locations, as well as brand new planet surfaces to explore.” Players will be able to travel down to planet surfaces from space; thus, ROCKFISH Games fulfills one of the biggest wishes of fans who played the prequel title.

Everspace 2 will feature eight individual star systems, between which players can travel at will for different challenges and surprises while also being able to modify (upgrade) their ships. Similar to the first game, Everspace 2 will offer gamers unforgiving enemies, with the goal being to survive for as long as possible. Death will bring players the opportunity to upgrade their ship(s) using modifications they looted during their previous run.

The first Everspace launched on May 26, 2017. An indie project by ROCKFISH Games, the title received generally positive reviews despite claims that it wouldn’t appeal to a wide audience (according to Anthony Marzano at Destructoid). The Nintendo Switch version, however, received the most praise of all the systems on which Everspace was released.

2017’s Everspace was not an open-world title, which is a welcome change for the sequel. No official release date for the game has been announced, as it still needs to reach its Kickstarter goal of USD$502,447 (450,000 EUR) by November 4, 2019. However, the Kickstarter page notes that ROCKFISH Games is looking to release version 1.0 of the game sometime in Q3 2021 for PC with planned paid DLC if the title is “another commercial success for [them.]”
