EVO 2020 Cancelled Due to Abuse Allegations Against Joey Cuellar

EVO 2020 has been officially cancelled due to a wave of new allegations of misconduct of Joey Cuellar. Mr Wizard, as he was often called, is the Co-Founder of the event, and was CEO of the organization.

Evolution Championship Series has released an official statement on Twitter in which they relieve Cuellar from all his involvement in the organization. Capcom, Bandai Namco and NetherRealm had decided to pull out from the event before it was cancelled.

Over the past 24 hours, in response to serious allegation recently made public on Twitter, we have made the firt of a series of important decisions regarding the future of our company. Effective intermediately, Joey Cuellar will no longer be involved with Evo in any capacity. We are currently working towards his complete separation from the company and have relieved him of all his responsibilities.

Going forward, Tony Cannon will act as a CEO, in this position, he will take leadership role in prioritiing greater accountability across Evo, both internally and at our events.

The organizers of EVO 2020 is now refunding all the tickets and divert some funds for the Project HOPE, a humanitarian NGO. At Gaming Instincts we will save the our readers from the gruesome details about Joey ‘Mr Wizard’ Cuellar’s conduct. Being that said, Cuellar did acknowledged the allegations being made against him, he says in a short tweet:

“I’m sorry. I never meant to hurt anyone,” … “I was young and reckless and did things I’m not proud of. I have been growing and maturing over the past 20 years, but that doesn’t excuse anything. All I have been trying to do is become a better person. Once again, I’m truly sorry.”

The video game industry has been hit hard by the allegation of several allegations of misconduct at the highest level of the industry, back in June 29, Ubisoft decided to leave Maxime Béland and Tommy François on administrative leave for allegations of similar nature.
