The Executioner Revealed in Debut Trailer

It was announced today by Lesser Evil Games, that their upcoming horror RPG The Executioner has been revealed in its debut trailer, which teases the game’s unique blend of digital storytelling, survival mechanics, and moral decision-making.

Check out the teaser trailer of The Executioner, featuring some gameplay footage:

“Developed by Moscow-based studio Lesser Evil Games, The Executioner has already been receiving substantial plaudits in the Russian gaming press, and has recently launched a Kickstarter campaign, from which it seeks $19,000.

About The Executioner

The Executioner puts you in the shoes of a man who tortures people for a living and has to fight to preserve his own waning sanity.

Fusing elements of traditional roleplaying with investigation, exploration and moral decision-making, it invites players take on the role of an executioner who must seek a signed confession from those he is about to put to death – and there are many means of gaining one, not all of them pleasant.

Throughout The Executioner, players must make a variety of decisions that shape the way the game plays out. Will you torture a man for a piece of paper to satisfy the town’s judge, or risk angering your employer by saying you aren’t sure he’s guilty? And when you do put a criminal to death, will you bow to the crowd’s blood-thirst, or will you be as merciful as you can be?

The game is also wrapped up in a mystery story, with a whole town to explore, an array of fully fleshed-out characters, and a gripping horror-themed narrative that unravels as you play. All the while, you must preserve your sanity, which wanes a little more with every difficult choice you have to make.

With a simple, predominantly text-based interface unfolding 20 hours of engaging story, The Executioner promises a dark and unsettling atmosphere, and a world filled with moral ambiguity. With the threat of revolution on the cards, will you fight for this town’s traditional values, or revolt in the name of progress? The decision is yours. So are the consequences.

Key Features

  • Your own torture chamber – study your victims, find their weak spot, and use your extensive arsenal (or their loved ones) to break them.
  • An occult underground – a town filled with rich mysticism built around Medieval artefacts: the Hand of Glory, Madrake Root, and Tarot Cards.
  • A dark economy – a market in dead flesh, with you as the main supplier.
  • A walking lie detector – your character’s unique perceptive abilities make him a walking lie detector and opens the door into the occult.
  • Staying sane – as a torturer and executioner, you’ll need to constantly manage your sanity to survive in this world.
