Publisher Xbox Game Studios and developers Playground Games and Eidos Montreal have announced that Fable has been delayed to 2026. The delay is to give the game “more time”. Additionally, new gameplay footage was also released during a new interview with head of Xbox Game Studios Craig Duncan. Fable is in production for Xbox Series and PC. According to a recent report from Vandal, Fable is being developed and is planned to be released on Nintendo Switch 2 and PlayStation 5.
Head of Xbox Game Studios Craig Duncan commented on the delay in the latest Official Xbox Podcast:
“I just want to start with, [we’re] really excited about progress, really excited where Playground are. We previously announced the date for Fable as 2025—we are actually going to give Fable more time and it’s going to ship in 2026 now. While I know that’s not maybe the news people want to hear, what I want to assure people of is that it’s definitely worth the wait.”
“I have unequivocal confidence in the Playground team. If you think about their history and legacy for Forza Horizon, the last two games—critically acclaimed, award-winning, beautiful, played great. And just what they’re bringing to Fable as a franchise, just think of the visuals of what you expect of Playground Games, plus amazing gameplay, British humor, Playground’s version of Albion—so inspired by what’s gone before with the franchise, but their take. And quite frankly, the most beautifully realized version of Albion you’ve ever seen. So really excited about the plans and really excited about the future and I want the community to understand that we do these things for the best of the games, and the teams, and ultimately that results in the best games, or the best game for the community.”
Fable’s details:
What does it mean to be a hero? In last year’s trailer, that question was answered by Dave, a gardener-turned-giant with a chip on his shoulder. This year, we get a much darker take from Humphry, played by the British comedy actor Matt King. Humphry was once Albion’s greatest Hero, but those glory days are long gone. In Fable, Humphry will be forced out of retirement when a mysterious figure from his past threatens the very existence of Albion.
Playground Games also confirmed its collaboration with Eidos Montreal, who will be supporting the ongoing development of Fable, which will be coming to players in 2025.
