Xbox Game Studios’ Playground Games is developing Fable with the Forza engine, a job listing on Microsoft’s website confirmed.
“ForzaTech is the engine, tools, and pipelines that drive both the Forza Motorsport and Forza Horizon series of games”. Reads the job listing. “In addition to adding new features like raytracing to support the next console generation, we are also enriching the toolset to support an open-world action RPG – Fable.”
The Tech Share team at Turn 10 builds new systems and tools that benefit all games running on ForzaTech, helps teams design features and tools in a shareable way, and provides support for our cross-studio content teams. We are looking for a generalist who is comfortable working across many different areas and enjoys learning new systems to help us craft a better ForzaTech.
Fable
was announced during last year’s Xbox Game Showcase, other than the reveal trailer and rumors not much has been revealed about the RPG.
Unofficial information has been provided by Shpeshal Ed, a renowned Xbox insider who affirms that the game will not be an MMO, but it will feature online multiplayer, possibly as a co-op.

“It wasn’t an MMO last I heard. It will have SOME kind of online aspect I Think, like co-op or something. But I don’t think the MMO rumors were true,” Shpeshal Ed posted on the Xbox Era forums.
Playground Games currently has around 300 employees and two “main project teams”. The studio revealed in 2018 that their vision was to grow both teams to have 200 developers each. It’s also important to mention that Turn 10 Studios and Playground Games have a close relationship, both teams worked on the Forza franchise and are experienced using the ForzaTech. It’s expected that Turn 10 Studios will help PlayGround Games with the development of Fable.
Both PlayGround Games and Turn 10 are located in Leamington Spa, UK. Fable’s Game Director, Ralph Fulton said in June 2019: “The two teams [Forza & Fable] are very closely linked from a technology-sharing perspective. Both teams can see the benefit of working closely together, there’s no reason to not do that.”
Fable is confirmed to be available for Xbox Game Pass subscribers at launch.
