Finally we have been given a more detailed look at the upcoming Ubisoft game Far Cry 6. While the gameplay trailer only revealed a tiny amount of what fans can expect, it should still be enough to get them excited.
The game is set on the Caribbean island of Yara, 50 years after a violent revolution cut it off from the rest of the world. If that sounds familiar that is because this setting is based in Cuba. The Cuban Revolution of 1959 serves as inspiration for said conflict and a jumping-off point for the game. Ubisoft has stated this is “the largest Far Cry playground to date”, with the reveal helping make that case.
Giancarlo Esposito will play a brutal Dictator by the name of Antón Castillo, or you can just call him “El Presidente” if you prefer. Similar to previous entries there has been a lot of emphases placed on his character as the main antagonist. While his role was briefly teased here we can most likely expect a complex character with moral ambiguity.
Standing by Castillo’s side is his dutiful son Diego. Again his part in the trailer is kept brief but we can expect him to play a large part in the story.
The game will return to having a specific character leading the story. That person is a freedom fighter by the name of Dani Rojas. She or He (depending on players’ choice) will ally herself with a group known as Libertad in hopes of Deposing Castillo. Since Far Cry can be pretty unpredictable as to where the story goes this setup will make for an interesting power struggle.
The reveal ends with a release date for the next installment of the Far Cry series. We can expect to explore the beautiful island of Yara starting on October 7th, 2021.
