With Kingdom Hearts III now released over two months ago, work has shifted over to the production of the long-awaited Final Fantasy VII Remake. And with that focus came a sudden change in the recruitment page for Square Enix, as it now lists former project lead on the remake Naoki Hamaguchi as the title’s co-director.
Hamaguchi now shares the same position with the remake’s director, Tetsuya Nomura. with the position change and now two acting directors for the Final Fantasy VII Remake, it seems as though production of the game is picking up pace.
Along with the FFVII Remake news, it also appears the Final Fantasy XIV director/producer Naoki Yoshida has swapped from the Business Division 5 to the Third Business Division. Attached to the move also appears to be a new title in the works which is listed on the recruitment page.
“Based on the former 5th Business Division, the newly established Third Development Division has started work on a new key project following Final Fantasy XIV, taking up a challenge for the next generation.” – Naoki Yoshida
With no mention of what this new project could be, it’s interesting to see their work shift into a new title. Final Fantasy XIV is introducing its third main expansion in the Shadowbringers DLC, while this new project has been in early development since what appears to be 2016, according to the Business Division 5’s recruitment page.
While we’ve been in the dark regarding the development process and progress on the Final Fantasy VII Remake, hopefully we’ll be hearing something shortly. There’s a rumor circling that a Final Fantasy VII Remake Uncovered event is supposed to take place this month in April. However, there’s currently no official statement from anyone working on the title to verify these claims.
Stay tuned for any more details that may surface regarding both the Final Fantasy II Remake and the mysterious new project in development by the Final Fantasy XIV division.
