Yes, you read that right: FIFA 17 is going to have an actual story-mode as you work to make your mark on and off the pitch as the Premier League’s next rising star, Alex Hunter.
On paper, it reads as a revamped version of FIFA‘s Be a Pro mode, only this time placing you in the shoes of young prodigy. You’ll be able to sign up for any club that suits your fancy, going off of today’s reveal trailer, eventually working up through the ranks before breaking through on the world stage. FIFA 17 also marks the first time that the franchise harnesses the Frostbite game engine – one synonymous with DICE and the Battlefield series – and it’ll be fascinating to see how the developer takes to the new engine.
Check out the Trailer:
“Unlike previous iterations of FIFA, this actually looks like a bonafide story mode. It revolves around Alex Hunter, a footballer who enters the English Premier League and eventually plays for Manchester United. Managers, expensive homes and whatnot are showcased in cut scenes and multiple characters are seen more than once.
That’s certainly one way to innovate on past games though it remains to be seen how this new Journey mode will pan out when it comes to the actual football.
FIFA 17 is out on September 29th for Xbox One, Xbox 360, PS3, PS4 and PC. It will be the first FIFA title to be developed using Frostbite rather than the Ignite Engine.”
