FIFA 21 will be released on 9 October for Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and PC. EA Sports has decided to reveal the cover star ahead of tomorrow’s Xbox Games Showcase event. Kylian Mbappe, the sensation from France and WC 2018 will take the spotlight in the art from FIFA 21.

The media and fans can’t understand why in 2020, EA has decided to enter the new decade with something that feels like really ugly early 90s art.
The standard edition looks like the budget re-release of the Mega Drive version more than a new, modern game and is bafflingly ugly. The Champions Edition doesn’t look much better and has the same Photoshop-has-only-just-been-invented 90s vibe.
While other versions of the game seem to feature slightly better design, the approach is still the same, perhaps EA wants new fans to feel what it’s like snipping pictures from an idol and make a collage for the cover of a high school notebook.
‘Being on the cover of FIFA is a dream come true. From my time at Bondy to Clairefontaine to the World Cup, this marks another big milestone’, said Mbappé.
‘I’ve been playing this game since I was a kid and I am honored to represent a whole new generation of footballers and be in the same group as many other amazing footballers who I now share this honor with.’
FIFA 21 will be released on 9 October for Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and PC. Although if you buy anything other than the standard edition you can get access from 6 October. There will be Xbox Series X and PlayStation 5 versions as well, although since the consoles won’t be released until probably November it’s unclear when exactly they’ll be out.
