Final Fantasy 16 producer Naoki Yoshida recently reported in an interview in the latest issue of Uniqlo’s UT magazine spotted by Twitter user @alverich_ff14 that the game is in “the final stretch” of the development process. The interview was part of Uniqlo’s collaboration with Final Fantasy for the franchise’s 35th anniversary.
In the interview, Yoshida commented on the game’s development, saying:
“Currently, development on the latest title, Final Fantasy XVI, is in the final stretch. As a single-player game, Final Fantasy XVI aims to unify the story and gameplay experience. Unlike online games, which portrays multiple players at once, Final Fantasy XVI has an individual focus, which makes the story more immersive. And I think the story has become quite deep. My hope is that the adults who have grown up, understand the rules of society, and drifted away from Final Fantasy thinking ‘the real world isn’t as easy as a video game’ can remember the enthusiasm they had back then. That’s what we’re keeping in mind as we make this game.”
A description of the game via Square Enix can be seen below:
Final Fantasy XVI brings players into a world where Eikons are powerful and deadly creatures that reside within Dominants—a single man or woman who is blessed with the ability to call upon their dreaded power. The story follows Clive Rosfield, a young man dedicated to mastering the blade, who is dubbed the First Shield of Rosaria and tasked to guard his younger brother Joshua—the Dominant of the Phoenix. Unexpected events set Clive on a dark and dangerous road to revenge.
Final Fantasy 16 is an upcoming action role-playing game developed by Square Enix Creative Business Unit III for PlayStation 5. The game was originally announced on Sep 16 2020.
