All aboard to the HYPE train, maybe we will have a Final Fantasy VII Crisis Core Remake according to this interview with the Final Fantasy VII Remake Director/Character designer Tetsuya Nomura.
A fan told Nomura that he would like to play Before Crisis: Final Fantasy VII, currently only available on PSP in fully-fledged console form and Nomura answer that for the time being, he is focusing on Kingdom Hearts III. Once he finishes with that protect, he will come back to the development of Final Fantasy VII Remake. Nomura also said that he recently spoke with producer Yoshinori Kitase about some ideas to accompany the release of the remake (probably talking about a bundle/compilation of some FFVII spin off games as well).
Q: When can we play Before Crisis: Final Fantasy VII again?
Tetsuya Nomura: “Perhaps not everyone is aware of this, but I am working on a remake of Final Fantasy VII… [laughs]. I’m focusing on Kingdom Hearts III at the moment, but once that’s done I’ll be heading over there next. I’ve been thinking about ideas for the Remake’s release, and just spoke with producer Yoshinori Kitase about it today. We have a lot of the old guys thinking about all kinds of developments that can accompany the Remake in some form. If we could maybe do some kind of compilation title. For now, please wait for Final Fantasy VII’s turn.”
Kingdom Hearts III launches this January, so that’s about over five and half years since its announcement back in E3 2013. With it releasing in just a few more months, based on what Nomura is saying it seems like we can expect to start seeing more focus on the development of Final Fantasy VII Remake.
Should they do a compilation title featuring Final Fantasy VII’s spinoffs, possible titles include the aforementioned Before Crisis: Final Fantasy VII which released for mobile phones in Japan in September 2004, the CG animated film Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children which released on DVD in September 2005, Dirge of Cerberus: Final Fantasy VII which released in January 2006, and Crisis Core: Final Fantasy VII which released for PlayStation Portable in September 2007.
