It has been less than a day since Firesprite Games has been acquired by Sony and already the large studio is hard at work. It appears that the studio is already hiring for three future projects, all of which appearing to be Next-Generation in nature. Whether these games will be exclusive to the PlayStation 5 or see releases on PC as well remain to be seen.
The studio itself already contained 200 developers, and it appears that the Sony acquisition is already going to lead to some massive expansion. As it stands the company is currently hiring for 46 new roles. More than a third of these jobs listings are for a game that is being referred to as a “narrative adventure,” possibly meaning that we can expect a familiar type of the first-party title.
The Development Director for the project described it as a “dark, story-driven next-generation” game “with genre-defining goals.” A Senior Designer also referred to it as having a “AAA branching narrative,” though he stated that “the team is at an early stage.” While this project sounds like one to keep an eye out for, we will most likely not see it at the PlayStation Showcase, which is taking place tomorrow.
Eight additional roles are linked to another project, this one an “action-shooter,” the Development Manager described as “a ground-breaking next-generation PvP shooter with a Games as a Service focus.” though again they made a point to say it is in “the earliest stages of a multi-year development,” and as such it too will most likely not be showcased for a while.
Finally, it appears the third project will be a VR-oriented action-adventure project. The most interesting part about this however is that it will be “adapted from one of the most original and successful multimillion-selling console IP titles in the last 10 years.” Since the studio is now owned by Sony there are a handful of options that it could be, such as Horizon: Zero Dawn, God of War, Ghost of Tsushima, and more, all of which are tempting.
The addition of Firesprite to PlayStation Studios was only announced today but already it sounds like it was a smart investment. It should be interesting to see what these games eventually shape up to be. And if you would like to watch the PlayStation Showcase, we will be streaming it here, starting at 3:30 PM EST.
