First Gameplay Footage Of Ys IX Revealed

In a detailed showing at the Dengeki Game Festival 2019, video game company Nihon Falcom gave fans the first look at their upcoming RPG title, Ys IX: Monstrum Nox. Below, you can check out the exclusive gameplay footage from the event:

Along with the enticing gameplay footage also came plenty of exciting details about Ys IX. In a detailed information list from Gamestalk.net translated by Gematsu, a flurry of details about the upcoming titled have bee revealed.

Check those out below:

  • Maps are three-dimensional with different levels of elevation.
  • Jumping and vertical actions have increased.
  • 40 to 50 percent of the map is the city.
  • The prison is a major symbol, and surrounding it is a vast city.
  • Monstrum means “monster,” and Nox means “night.” Combined, that means “Night of the Monsters.” As the title suggests, “night” is an important keyword.
  • In the key visual, the five people behind bars are Monstrum, but the girl not behind bars is different.
  • The way Adol appears is different than before—he is in a significantly unusual form.
  • Each Monstrum has various actions, such as flying, running up walls, and more. You can reach various places by utilizing these actions.
  • Some actions work on traps to cancel their mechanics.
  • Like past Ys titles, Ys IX has simple action that even novices and players not good at action games can enjoy.
  • There are various things Adol needs to do in order to live in the city. He will not be camping as he has in the past. Unlike Ys: The Oath in Felghana, the city itself is also where the adventure happens. “Guild Management” is one element that serves as a means for Adol to live in the city. Adol’s position is special and not the type of thing he can be proud of. He starts from the position of, “So now what?” It is one reason his appearance has yet to be revealed.
  • You can run up any wall.
  • You can generally travel to places seen in the distance.
  • As the largest city in the series yet, there is a ton of variation, from developing areas to slums.
  • There is a Colosseum in the city, and unusual things will occur.
  • The game uses the series’ traditional party system. You will advance while utilizing each Monstrum’s different abilities.
  • Since a Monstrum’s superhuman actions are shared across the party, you will not have to go through the trouble of switching between characters to use them.
  • Since attributes are still important in battle, you will switch between party members while fighting.

From the looks of it there will be plenty for players to sink their teeth into from the next in line of the cult-favorite Ys series. With what appears to be the largest map in the series, the heightened vertical exploration and the yet-to-be revealed Ys protagonist, Adol’s, secret appearance are all sure to make this entry one of the best, and most surprising, in the series.

Ys IX: Monstrum Nox is set to release on PlayStation 4 this coming fall in Japan. No release date has been announced for the west but we will keep you posted once one is detailed.
