After working for 24 years under the name of id Software, Tim Willits, former studio head, has now joined Saber Interactive as Chief Creative Officer. He says that he has done what he need to prove himself in the industry and now it’s time for him to have fun and work with people who he likes to be with.
Tim Willits was joined id Software 24 years ago when he brought new ideas to Doom at the time. He has worked on so many great titles so far and delivered games that the industry is proud of. Now, the man who was leading id Software for a while, has joined Saber Interactive, the team behind World War Z. When Willits was asked about his choice, he said:
The agility of small teams and the opportunity to get stuff done quickly can’t be overstated. I’m not saying anything bad about Bethesda – I love them – but smaller teams are exciting and fun. When someone has a good idea, we jump on it. If it doesn’t work out, we change it quick.
At my age, you’ve got to work with people you like. You’ve got to work on fun stuff. I don’t have anything to prove. I’ve been successful. I’ve made good games. …At the end of the day, I’m literally going to travel around the world to cool places to work with awesome teams and make video games. Why would I pass this up?
Personally, I liked his vision on indie developers and his courage to help the new team in the industry to grow, especially with 24 years of experience at one of the biggest studios of the world.
Saber Interactive currently owns 5 studios with over 500 employees. The company invests on multiple games from different genres and that’s one of the reasons for Tim Willits to be part of the team.
