Fortnite and Avengers: Infinity War team up for special event

Fortnite and Avengers: Infinity War team up for special event

Fortnite is getting an Avengers: Infinity War crossover, but anyone hoping for skins based on the Avengers might be disappointed by Epic Games’ current plans.

Avengers: Infinity War is currently the biggest smash hit of the film world. Fortnite is basically the most popular video game on the planet. Now the two are smashing together for an epic crossover that’s actually pretty feasible for a story where the villain can alter reality.

Here’s how it’ll work: Separate from the usual Fortnite: Battle Royale modes will be a “Infinity Gauntlet Limited Time Mashup,” according to Entertainment Weekly. This mode will play out much like a standard 100-player battle royale, but with the added twist that hiding somewhere on the map is Thanos’ Infinity Gauntlet. Pick it up and you’ll transform into Thanos himself, wielding all the powers of the Infinity Stones.

This is a huge crossover for two of the biggest franchises right now. Considering there aren’t officially licensed Avengers games out there — at least, not yet — this is as close as fans may get to actually playing with the Marvel Universe’s latest hit.

Epic Games has yet to say how long the Fortnite Battle Royale and Avengers: Infinity War event will last, but expect it to be available early on the morning of May 8. For Avengers fans who aren’t playing Fortnite yet, Battle Royale is available on iOS, Mac, PlayStation 4, Windows PC and Xbox One for free.

The limited time mode (LTM) will available on Tuesday May 8 on PS4, Xbox One and Fortnite Mobile.

The official Fortnite Twitter account revealed teaser artwork for the Fortnite Avengers event along with the caption: “The battle begins tomorrow…”

The artwork features a picture of the Fortnite season 4 Omega skin next to an image of Thanos wielding all of the Infinity Stones.

A start time for the Fortnite Avengers Infinity War event has not been revealed yet.

However, ahead of major Fortnite updates and events servers tend to go down around 8am or 9am UK time – before coming back online after a few hours of server downtime.
