The recent rumors surrounding the idea of Souls developer FromSoftware and author behind the books which inspired the Game of Thrones TV series, George R.R. Martin, collaborating on a new title have been in full force lately. The rumors first started earlier this year with leaks that an open-world game featuring numerous kingdoms had Martin attached to the unannounced title as a writer and was collaborating with game director Hidetaka Miyazaki.
Along with those rumors, a new hint earlier this week from Martin himself suggested that he is in fact working with a Japanese video game developer. Well, it appears as though these rumors may have some more clout to them as well-known industry journalist Antonio Fucito has himself confirmed that a title between the two parties is indeed in the works, and is going by the code-name Great Rune.
A source out of FromSoftware told Gematsu that the game was only currently known as “GR” , so this news regarding the official name does seem to fit. It was also confirmed by Fucito that the game may not be a full-on open world title largely due to From’s limiting game engine.
Regardless, we’re also expected to hear more on the game as it’s supposed (according to the rumors) to be announced at this year’s E3 during Microsoft’s presentation. Stay tuned.
