Gears of War 4 has gone gold, meaning the game has been released to manufacturing ahead of its October 11 release, Microsoft has announced.
The broader Microsoft community is more excited about Gears of War 4 than it usually is for Xbox One games, because Gears of War 4 is the first in the series to sim-launch on PC and Xbox One. Gaming could do a lot to popularise Microsoft’s Windows 10 Store, and that’s presumably what the buy-on-one-platform-play-on-both Play Anywhere scheme is all about.
Supporting full cross-play between the two platforms is a pretty big feather in Gears of War 4’s cap too, especially given how popular the franchise’s multiplayer has been.
Gears of War 4 will launch for Xbox One and PC worldwide on October 11. It will be available as an “Xbox Play Anywhere” title, which means if you buy a game digitally on either platform, you’ll get a digital copy of the game for the other platform. Additionally, Gears of War 4 supports cross-play across all game modes, including Versus, campaign, and Horde 3.0.
“Gears of War 4 is the fifth installment in the Gears of War series and it is the first entry not to be developed by Epic Games. Gears of War 4 launches worldwide on October 11th 2016 on Xbox One and PC. In related news, Gears of War 4 PC won’t support HDR at launch, however the platform will support split screen co-op.”
