Geoff Keinghley has decided to not participate E3 2020, he is a very influential figure for the gaming industry, he is the host of several events across the industry. This decision has delivered a huge blow to Entertainment Software Association. Geoff Keinghley is expected to continue his role as executive producer and host of The Game Awards.
“I look forward to supporting the industry in other ways and at other events in the future”
His decision might be related to the current approach for the big event, ESA is planning to make E3 more consumer friendly, and it will be more of a fan festival full of celebrities and influencers.
“I’ve debated what to say about E3 2020,” Geoff said on Twitter “While I want to support the developers who will showcase their work, I also need to be open and honest with you, the fans about precisely what to expect from me. I have made the difficult decision to decline to produce E3 Coliseum.”
Like it was expected, Sony confirmed in January that they’re skipping the event, in an official statement by Sony Interactive Entertainment, the Japanese giant indicates that it’s ESA’s vision that don’t coincide to what they’re planning for 2020.
“After thorough evaluation SIE has decided not to participate in E3 2020,”…”We have great respect for the ESA as an organization, but we do not feel the vision of E3 2020 is the right venue for what we are focused on this year.
E3 has always been an event focused on showcasing the latest technology from the entertainment industry, the event has seen the announcement of consoles and games, now the organizers had been blamed from, leaking information from their participants, Sony’s nonattendance and Geoff Keinghley resignation.
