God of War: Ragnarok Showcases Character Art

Yesterday at the Playstation Showcase we finally got our first major look at the upcoming God of War: Ragnarok. For fans of the PlayStation 4 predecessor, the game looks to offer up much of the same, showcasing Kratos and his son Atreus battling their way through Fimbulwinter with Ragnarok right around the corner.

The trailer also helped fill us in on some of the new and returning characters we can expect to see this time around. Actors portraying the characters in the game have now taken to Twitter to offer us glimpses of several of the characters, some seen in the trailer and some not.

Of course, we have Kratos and Atreus, the lead characters of the story:

Though he only appeared briefly in the first game, and not fully in frame, Thor will be getting a larger appearance this time around:

The dwarven brothers Sindri and broke will return in this game as well. Most likely they will take the role of upgrading your weapons and abilities similar to the first game. They will be joined by other returning characters Freya and the severed head of Mimir:

While mentioned in the first game, the Norse god of war Tyr did not make a proper appearance. This time around that will change, as Kratos seemly seeks him out according to the trailer. We saw him briefly near the end of the said trailer but here we get another look:

Finally, two new characters are briefly seen in the trailer. The first is a dwarf by the name of Durlin. Unlike the dwarf brothers he appears to be more scholarly and wise. The second of these characters is Angraboda. In Norse mythology, she is a giant usually depicted as Loki’s lover, as well as the mother of both The World Serpent and Fenrir. It will be interesting to see how she relates to God of War‘s retelling of Norse mythos:

God of War: Ragnarok does look to have quite the cast of characters already. It will be interesting to learn how they relate to the store when the game releases, some point in 2022.
