Google is gearing up for the official release of their break into the games industry with their upcoming game streaming platform, Stadia. The company held its first AMA on Reddit earlier this week which unveiled a piece of interesting information (among other details) regarding what will be featured on the streaming service.
Asked by Reddit user thestadiacrowd, google revealed that Stadia will indeed feature everyone’s favorite digital collect-a-thon, achievements. In response to the user’s question regarding free games for the base version of Stadia, Director of Product for Stadia, Andrey Doronichev, revealed the inclusion of an achievement system similar to other consoles.
“Oh yes, achievements… as a lifelong gamer and a pathological overachiever, I love achievements! Of course we’ll have something similar to other platforms. However, it will not be there immediately at launch. Will come a little bit later.”
While Doronichev clarified we wouldn’t be seeing the achievements feature right away, it comes as pretty good news for those digital collectable hunters eyeing the upcoming Stadia release. As for now, it has yet to be revealed as to when we could see the achievements system hit the streaming platform, as Google has also confirmed an incredibly busy roadmap planned once the service launches this coming November.
The upcoming Stadia service is only one of a few upcoming streaming services looking to turn the games industry on its head later this year. While plenty of gamers seem to be ready to try out the new streaming experience, there’s also a rather reluctant crowd for the new method of gaming – especially those concerned with data cap limits and limited internet access in some areas.
All in all, it looks as though game streaming may be the inevitable future of video games, we’re just not sure if now is the right time to hop on board for streaming to replace traditional consoles. Stadia is scheduled to officially release to the public this coming November.
