As 2019 comes to a close and we head into a new decade, the premise of video game streaming continues to rise. With all the technological advancements, some are still skeptical of how successful a streaming game service could be. We’re just now getting comfortable with the idea of subscription gaming services. Microsoft with Game Pass, EA with EA Access and others. Unfortunately from a streaming gaming service perspective, we have a long way to go. Sony has the PlayStation Now service and even it deals with frame drops, lag issues tied not only to your internet but PSN’s less than stellar servers. So the skepticism is warranted on all sides, Google looks throw their hat in the ring with their platform Stadia.
We’ll get our first taste of Google Stadia next month as today Google announced that Google Stadia Founder’s Edition will be released November 19th. According to Google, users who preordered Stadia will receive their respective editions “in the same order that pre-orders were received”. The Founder’s Edition of Stadia will come with a limited-edition controller, a Chromecast Ultra, a 3-month subscription for Stadia Pro ($9.99/month) and a second 3-month subscription to give to a friend.
Google is boasting the latest games on PC, including Cyberpunk 2077, they’ve spoken on the potential of 1,000 player Battle Royale servers, decreased latency and more. It’s a big game Google is talking and some are worried the Internet age hasn’t caught up to something like this just yet. It’ll be interesting to see what happens when pre-orders are sent out and users start signing into their accounts.
