Gotham Knights was originally slated for release in 2021, but has already been delayed once. There has been no news about the game since last October, where we were presented with a new story trailer for the game but no release date.
In the story trailer, narrated by Penguin, we are presented a world in which Batman and Commissioner Gordon are dead, leaving only the dark knight’s four former protégés Barbra Gordon (Batgirl), Dick Grayson (Nightwing), Damien Wayne (Robin), and Jason Todd (Red Hood) to defend the city from the corruption that has been on the rise since the death of Batman. Also in the trailer, it is revealed by Penguin that the main antagonist in the game is a secret society called the Court of Owls, a group that monitors and controls Gotham from the shadows.
Players will fight against the Court of Owls and their brainwashed assassins called Talons as one of the four crimefighters, each having their own special abilities and playstyle. The game can be played solo but also features cooperative multiplayer in which a second player can drop into the game and leave at any time. Players will also be able to use vehicles such as the Batcycle to traverse a city that will level with them as they level up their characters. The Talons are also designed in different ways to challenge players to use different strategies and gadgets to combat them effectively.
Gotham Knights will face some stiff competition this fall as it releases just two weeks after the newly delayed Forspoken, and three weeks before the hotly anticipated Starfield.
