Warner Bros. Interactive’s Gotham Knights has been delayed to 2022. In a statement published on Twitter, the company said it their priority to give the game “more time to deliver the best possible experience for players”. The game was previously announced to release this year.
“Thank you to our amazing fans for your tremendous support of Gotham Knights,” Warner Bros’ statement continues. “We look forward to showcasing more of the game in the coming months.”
Gotham Knights was revealed at last year’s DC FanDome, the game is a new combat-focused co-op where players take the control of Robin, Nightwing, Red Hood, and Batgirl after the death of Bruce Wayne.
The teaser trailer starts with a recorded message from an older Bruce Wayne, in a grave message he warns that the Batcave is destroyed and Gotham’s villains will strike with full force, is up to players to become vigilantes and protect the citizens of Gotham.
“You’re not trying to become the new Batman, you’re becoming your own badass superhero,” said Fleur Marty Senior Producer and head of the Gotham Knights development.
“Gotham Knights is a brand-new open-world, third-person action RPG featuring the Batman Family as players step into the roles of Batgirl, Nightwing, Red Hood and Robin, a new guard of trained DC Super Heroes who must rise up as the protectors of Gotham City in the wake of Batman’s death.
An expansive, criminal underworld has swept through the streets of Gotham, and it is now up to these new heroes to protect the city, bring hope to its citizens, discipline to its cops and fear to its criminals. Players must save Gotham from descent into chaos and reinvent themselves into their own version of the Dark Knight.”
