Gran Turismo 7 Announced at Future of Gaming

During today’s PlayStation’s Future of Gaming event

, Sony announced that Gran Turismo 7 is coming for PlayStation 5, the new game will offer a campaign mode, the beloved Simulation mode is coming back, a featured that was severely hurt the latest entry Gran Turismo Sports.

In the announcement trailer we got a first look at the GT Town, the simulation mode that the game will feature, the design looks very similar to the classic Gran Turismo games, very similar to the Gran Turismo 3, all seems compact and accessible, one place that has all dealerships, just one tuning shop, and GT Auto, a place where players can wash, change oil and change the rims of the car. GT Sports is also evident on the map, so is very likely that all the courses and functionality of Gran Turismo Sports are featured in the new game.

Take a look at the announcement trailer here:

Gran Turismo is an IP from the PlayStation Studios, Polyphony Digital, the studio is led by Kazunori Yamauchi, a respected name in the industry. The Gran Turismo franchise has always been used as a showcase of the capabilities of the PlayStation.

Jim Ryan, President, and CEO of SIE explain how the PlayStation 5 will be a significant leap to deliver a new generation of videogames experiences “that will redefine expectations for what games can be”, Gran Turismo 7 seems to be the perfect fit to showcase the capabilities of the next-gen console.

“Worlds will be richer and more beautiful, they’ll captivate your senses in ways you didn’t think possible, and you’ll be able to experience them much more seamlessly, with lightning fast loading. Today’s showcase is just a glimpse of what’s to come in the next generation, and we want to thank our community for taking this journey to PS5’s launch with us.”

The new Gran Turismo looks as good as the current-gen Gran Turismo Sports, is still uncertain how Polyphony Digital will be able to raise even more a bar that is for the moment as high as it can be. But a recent interview with Kazunori Yamauchi has revealed that he is more interested in frame-rates that resolution. The new game might be an improved version of Gran Turismo Sports, adding the desperately needed Simulation Mode and perhaps a more living world, whether if it is NPC in the tuning shops or the racing team, or if it’s just a more lively crowd and weather in the track.
