Many people have forgotten, in fact, I almost did till somebody reminded me, that when Square Enix announced Marvel’s Avengers it was actually part of a multi-game partnership the company had entered into with Marvel. A partnership that no doubt came about due to all those crazy designs Tetsuya Nomura did. Well, after that announcement there was a gap of time where anybody would have forgotten this fact. However, finally, the second game out of this partnership Marvel’s Guardians of The Galaxy has landed.
Kicking off the Square Enix Presents live stream we got to see a lot of the upcoming game. We received a pretty awesome trailer, set to Holding Out For A Hero by Bonnie Tyler.
After which the Eidos-Montreal took us on an in-depth look at the game with a deep dive into gameplay.
Players will take control of Peter Quill AKA Star-Lord through the course of the game. The entire game is intended as a single-player experience with the rest of the guardians appearing as AI you can issue limited commands to. One of the coolest points in combat is when Star-Lord starts to play 80s music which seems to power the team-up. As far as the combat is concerned it is very reminiscent of Final Fantasy XV if Prompto was the main character.
Also similar to Final Fantasy XV is the focus on banter. As characters fight monsters they yell one-liners and snide comments toward each other. This should also feel in line with current Guardians of The galaxy Roster. As Peter, you can also take part in dialog choices. These range from humorous statements to story-driving choices.
It does not look like players will have long to wait to jump into the boots of Star-Lord and start blasting Joan Jett. The game will release on October 26, 2021, for PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, and PC.
