Guardians of The Galaxy Offers Streamer Mode

One of the first things I heard many people say after the first showcase of the upcoming Marvel’s Guardians of The Galaxy, set to Bonnie Tylers’ Holding Out For A Hero, was just how hard the copywriter strikes were going to come down on streamers. This wasn’t too much of a shocker as over the past few years DMCA music strikes have become far more frequent. Since we know that the game’s album will consist of many high profile 80’s tracks questions arose about how easy the game might be to stream.

Thankfully Eidos Montreal has confirmed that the game will offer a streamer mode. This mode is specifically for streamers to avoid Copywrite strikes against their accounts. This is pretty good news since in an interview with VentureBeat, senior narrative director Mary DeMarle stated the game will feature “Everything from Iron Maiden to Rick Astley to KISS to Wham to Blondie.” She went on to talk about how the studio will use music, stating:

The way we use the music in the game is fun. Of course, we’ll use it as part of the cinematics or to heighten the drama in some scenes. You’ll be in big battles and hear something amazing like ‘The Final Countdown,’ because it matches the story. But at the same time, we have two unique ways we use it. One is, in the Milano, you have moments where the story takes you to the ship and you can hang out and talk to all the Guardians. There’s a jukebox in the Milano where you go over and pick the song you want to hear as you explore. You can listen to the songs on your own, how you want, while you’re hanging out.

Marvel’s Guardians of The Galaxy will arrive October 26, 2021 for Windows, Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
