Microsoft announced three big projects at E3 2018: Forza Horizon launched successfully last year and titled as the best arcade racing game of the current generation, Gears 5 will be coming within this year and more trailers from gameplay and story is on the way to be shown at E3 2019, and finally we had Halo Infinite that seems to be Microsoft’s most ambitious project right now, with no further details except a short trailer for the announcement that made a huge blast at E3 2018. However, the development team behind the game reveals little information on the game to hype us for the upcoming show at E3.
In the wake of new rumors that claim Halo Infinite will feature a Battle Royale mode at launch, Frank O’Connor from 343 Industries made it clear that nothing like this has been planned so far for the game, though it could be reconsidered during the development process. O’Connor said that Battle Royale is just “a mode not a genre”, so while the studio hasn’t prepared anything like this for launch within the multiplayer section, it’s possible to see the popular mode coming to the Infinite in the future. He also mentioned Forge as a powerful tool that fans are able to make every mode they want, so if they want a Battle Royale, they can go ahead and develop it in Halo 5. O’Connor said:
We will not talk about the launch content of Halo Infinite until we’re ready. I haven’t watched the video so if I am misinterpreting the headline as ‘Halo Infinite is launching with/as a Halo Battle Royale mode’ that is still not the case. You can probably make your own Battle Royale mode in Forge even right now though. It’s a mode not a genre.
The launch modes for MP are not 100% defined and are subject to change till quite late in the process – but Battle Rifle will still be there. So you can have BR. But are we interested in big social modes with loads of organic shenanigans? Yes. Specifically A blimp full of survivors heading to an Island after a (metaphorical) lecture from Beat Takeshi? No.
We are NOT doing this as of now – and no plans to — but Battle Royale could be made for any of the Halo games in MCC or 5 with some content and scripting additions, because it is a mode. It would have limits based on each engine. I’m pointing that out to be clear that it’s one of the ways we think about gameplay possibilities rather than a single direction for a title.
Halo Infinite is Xbox’s most important project that is still under wraps, but we expect to get more detailed information on the game at E3 2019, as its going to be the best conference of the American company till now.
