Legendary developer, Hideo Kojima claims that the upcoming years will represent a major switch to VR games and technologies.
“I think that VR will be a major shift,” …“In the games up until the present, all of the video, screens, etc have been put into a square layout that is there to hold information. We’ve had films as a medium for over 100 years now and this is the first time that we’ve broken through this frame.”
Hideo Kojima left Konami and established a team of former Konami employees, mostly Team Silent, and produced a controversial but well received Death Stranding, for PlayStation 4 and PC. Several rumors from accurate insider Dusk Golem, also known as Aesthetic Gamer, affirmed that Kojima and its development studio were chosen to produce an upcoming Silent Hill game for PlayStation 5.
Silent Hill‘s rumors were debunked by Konami. Interestingly, Kojima said he got a large project canceled. It’s possible that Kojima wanted to continue its first-person horror game, possibly being a PSVR only title.
Kojima was recently a member of the jury of September’s Venice VR Festival where he shared a few words about the future of the technology.
“Being able to now create art, film, and games that don’t fit into this frame and the question of how to go about expressing this… I think that the next two to three years will be major for this medium in terms of how creators and artists will use it and what they will create.”
Kojima Production is established by game developers, but Hideo Kojima seems interested in expanding to a film studio.
“In the future, Kojima Productions will start making films,” Kojima said at the time. “If you can do one thing well, then you can do everything well.”
“I think within the next few years, gaming will move on to streaming,” he added. “Movies, dramas, and games will all be streamed, and you’ll enjoy them on your iPad or iPhone or a screen anytime, anywhere. When that happens, games, films, and dramas will have to compete in the same space. I’m very interested in the new format of gaming that will appear on there, and that’s what I want to take on.”
