It looks like we might have a more narrow release window when it comes to the hotly anticipated Hogwarts Legacy, the open-world prequel game set 100 years before the boy who lived enrolled in the famous school for witchcraft and wizardry. This is thanks to the placement of the next film, Fantastic Beasts 3, itself part of a prequel series, as well as a new interview.
Reddit user SeerPumpkin spotted an interview in the November issue of Toy World Magazine. It was with Warner Bros. consumer products general manager Rachel Wakley about the overall Harry Potter franchise, now the wizarding world as the company ever expands the IP beyond its once central character.
In this interview, he discusses that there are two major releases planned for next year when it comes to the franchise. He then clarified that they were “a film and a game”. He went on to state that:
The second major release of 2022 will be for a new console game Hogwarts Legacy. The reaction to the trailer for this has been amazing and it looks set to be a huge success. We know that gaming is such an important part of the market and one that we had to be involved in. From what we’ve seen, the launch will be well worth the wait and will deliver a unique way for fans to interact with the franchise.
The film that he is referring to as the first release is fully titled Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets of Dumbledore. In September of this year, it was announced that the film would release on April 15, 2022. This means that, if Hogwarts Legacy is planned for next year, and after the film, then the game has a window between April 15 and December 31, 2022, where the company plans to release it.
Announced at the PlayStation 5 event in September 2020, the game has remained relatively quiet since the first trailer. The game was initially planned for a 2021 release, however, it was delayed into the 2022 window in January of this year.
