Horizon: Forbidden West Gets Release Date

The global pandemic brought about by Covid-19 has had an effect on every aspect of the life of the last two years. As gamers, it has been hard to not see how development across the industry has been impacted by lockdowns, the state of emergencies, the Tokyo 2021 Olympics, and more. If you needed further proof just look at the path of Horizon: Forbidden West this year.

A State of Play event earlier this year showcased the first gameplay for the game with no release date. From there all we really had were suggestions that the game would release in 2021. In an interview after Herman Hulst stated that the game was planned for 2021, though even he was unsure about this. Then later Jeff Grubb suggested that the date was being pushed into 2022, something that had already started to seem most likely.

Well, today during Opening Night Live! for Gamescom 2021 Guerilla Game Director Mathius De Jonge gave a brief message in which he finally revealed the release date for the upcoming PlayStation exclusive.  That release date is February 28, 2022, indeed confirming that the game had slipped into next year.

Preorders for the game will begin next week on September 2. Those preorders will be for both the PlayStation 4 and the PlayStation 5 as the game will be releasing on both consoles when it releases. For gamers that want something now, like right this moment, he also announced that Horizon: Zero Dawn has a 60 FPS update that is available now. This should give players just enough reason to jump back into the original, and just enough time to kill all those robot dinosaurs before the next game arrives.

We will keep you up to date with everything happening with Horizon: Forbidden West as we get closer to release.
