Hostages Situation in Ubisoft Montreal (Update)

Update:

The situation seems to be controlled, the Police is now evacuating all the people in the building.

According to reports from Le Journal De Montréal, there is a hostage situation in Ubisoft’s offices in Montréal, Quebec.

Unverified tweets from employees indicate that they are hiding under the desks, images from CBC shows that around fifty people are on the roof of the building and have barricaded a door from the outside with what seems to be a table.

The police have warned citizens to avoid the area as the situation involves heavily armed police officers.

It’s reported that a bomb squad and officers equipped with assault rifles have entered the building.

Back in June 2020, Ubisoft announced the start of investigations of the allegations of harassment, sexual assault, and misconduct. Tommy François and Maxime Béland have both been forced to leave the company as the allegations against them were overwhelming.

Those investigations revealed that up to 25 percent of 14.000 employees surveyed have witnessed criminal behaviors that include, sexual assault, sexual harassment, and discrimination.

Assassin’s Creed Valhalla’s Creative Director Ashraf Ismail has also been fired from Ubisoft due to his criminal behavior, investigations found that some of the allegations filed against him were true, as it was confirmed by an internal announcement shared within Ubisoft Montreal.

Last month, Ubisoft was also a victim of a ransomware attack in which hackers alleged to have the source code of Watch Dogs: Legion, among other crucial data to the studio.
